Summary: Anyone who goes through art school has drawn their fair share of nude models. However, most live figure studies last only between 5 and 30 minutes before changing poses. For this piece, we had a model return to the exact same pose for 6 separate 4-hour sessions, totaling 24 hours. I spent more time on this piece than I ever thought possible for a nude female drawn with pencil. I took as much time as I needed to get every value and proportion exactly perfect. It represented, for me, the culmination of all the nude model studies I had done up until that point; almost as if every other figure drawing had been merely a sketch in preparation for this piece. I also must thank Sal Villagran for his guidance throughout this intense and lengthy figure study.
